Weekend Finds

Trips to the flea market have become a family thing. This is what I came home with this weekend:

I scored these 3 pieces of art for $10… that's right. I spent just over $3 each. What's even better is that they are all originals and have great frames. They will be perfect in Hudson's room.

I need to re-mat this pair, but aren't they so cool?

Those sconces were beautiful and would look amazing on a black or navy wall. 

And then there was this pretty little jacket that caught my eye at the Goodwill clearance center I stopped at. You really have to dig at that place...

Here are a few more brass beauties that I took home. I'm still sorting out what I want for myself and what I can let go and put in the shop.

I scored this great little acrylic tray while I was out thrifting a couple of weeks ago for, get this... $0.60!

This was the state that my little tray was in when I purchased it:

I really can't look at that "Go Dawgs" photo without laughing. The tray was still in the cellophane wrap with ribbon like someone had literally donated their gift without unwrapping it. So, there were no scratches on it whatsoever -- another plus. I'm pretty sure that no one realized that those were just stickers on it. I peeled them off as easy as 1, 2, 3.

My new catch-all tray is perfect for holding my keys, phone, and sunglasses. Now, when it's time to head out, I'm not turning the house upside down in search of these 3 necessities. Problem solved.

2 + 2

Last week, I found 2 vintage rocks glasses at a local thrift store for 25 cents each. I had to get them. They were decorated with a great silver lattice design that I just couldn't pass up. Well, today I found 2 more at that same thrift store! My set of 4 now sits pretty on my liquor tray...

For now, that little Greek key tray will do, but one day, I'd like to have a beautiful, fully stocked bar cart on display. I really like the gold and bamboo combo.

coffee table upgrade

While thrifting a couple of weeks ago, I spotted this chow leg coffee table. I fell in love with it, and when I asked how much it was, they told me that I could just have it. FOR FREE! This coffee table would be the perfect addition to my living room, and once I could settle on a paint color, it would look great over the cowhide rug. I chose Valspar's City Chartreuse. It came out looking just as fabulous as I had envisioned. To top it off, my new pillows arrived! They tie the whole room together perfectly.

Hump Day Happenings

This week is going by especially slow for me. This morning, I took the boys to the flea market and out thrifting. Here are some great discoveries I made (please excuse the quality of my phone photos)...

And these fun navy lamps - just imagine them with a lucite base instead of that tacky plastic gold one. They would really be amazing! Maybe my next project??

Treasures along the way...

On my way to Savannah this week, I stopped at a Goodwill while passing through Walterboro. I picked up a couple of good finds...

These ceramic black horse head bookends:

This cute brass dish with quatrefoil cut-outs and peacock engraving:

And this crystal clock that pulls off the look of being more like a standing lucite watch:

It will sit pretty on my new parsons desk.

AND I only spent $6 on all 3 items combined. Talk about a GREAT deal. I'm a happy picker.

Flea Market Finds

Yesterday, I hit up the 2 flea markets in my area. I came home with these fabulous finds:

My very own Venus de Milo... it was seriously love at first sight!

2 Vintage Chartreuse Koi Fish Vases that I may use as book ends...

1 yard of this Fabric for $0.50!

And I passed up one of these Porcelain Blue Sitting Foo Dogs. The price just wasn't right for the condition that the one I found was in.

One of my friends that came with me beat me to this treasure. If I had spotted it first, I would have snatched up this 1930's Double Horse Head Vase in a heartbeat!

We stopped at a local thrift store before calling it a day, and I spotted this Small Malachite Dish. Needless to say, it came home with me. 

I Love Thrifting

So, I'm not the only one that spends my Saturdays looking for good deals around town. Rashon Carraway from the Mr. Goodwill Hunting blog has established a day where all thrifters unite and treasure hunt together. Now, this sounds like my kind of get-together! It's all going down on July 9th. Here is the 411 for my Cola peeps.

I'm a little bummed that I can't partake in the thrifting adventures of July 9th, but I'll be busy shooting a wedding in Charleston. I'd love to see what y'all find, so please post your treasures for the "blogworld" to see!

A Great Deal!

I discovered my first Goodwill Clearance Center while perusing through a few local thrift stores one Saturday morning last month. Upon entering the store, my eye immediately spotted an unusual faux bamboo dresser. I tried to talk down her $25 price tag and was informed that all prices were firm until Sunday. Get this... every Sunday, everything in the store is marked down 50%. What a deal! I took a chance and decided to return when the doors opened the next day. There she was, and I only paid $12.50! Now, that's a steal of a deal.

The dresser sat in our garage for a couple of weeks while I contemplated what color to paint it. After sanding down each piece, I used an olive green that I already had on hand from another project. For now, this vintage dresser sits in my son's room looking like this...

Next on my list:
-finding the perfect new hardware
-choosing a pretty paper to line the drawers
