i heart, comin' your way


I cannot begin to tell you all how excited I am to see some of my favorite bloggers come together on my blog for this series. Here we'll get the best of both worlds, fashion and design, as my guest bloggers give us their top 2.

Maybe it's just me, but these remind me of Tilly Maison mugs with that stripe at the bottom…


Obviously, they aren't as fabulous, but I found these while thrifting last week. $8 for 18 mugs… can't beat that. They are the perfect size for company! I'm pleased with my little knock-offs. :) What do y'all think?

DIY paper garland

I received a few questions about how I made garland, so I thought I'd show y'all my step-by-step process.

Step 1: You'll need card stock and a round hole punch (mine makes 2" circles). Punch out lots of circles in the colors that you wish to use.

Step 2: Line up the circles in the order that you want to sew them. I chose to go with a specific pattern, but if you're using more than 4 or 5 colors it may look better to have them randomly scattered with a more unexpected placement.

Step 3: Stack your circles in the same order you lined them up in.

Step 4: Feed the circles (one at a time) through your sewing machine so that you sew through the center of the circle. Each circle goes directly behind the other with edges touching but not overlapping. The machine will automatically feed the next circle through (as long as you keep the edges in contact with one another).

Step 5: Hang your garland and enjoy!

So easy, right? A very inexpensive way to decorating for the holidays or a special event. And what's even better is that you can save it and reuse time and time again. I hope this helped clear up any questions that you had about how I made my garland. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me.

Blog Swap | Friday's Fancies

hi there! it's jillian from cornflake dreams and i am thrilled to be swapping friday's fancies posts on a newfound treasure. anna had the fannntastic idea to create two looks paired with one blazer. here are my picks::
[mint bag - dress - flats -- blazer -- top - leggings - wedges]
my day look is a sweet little white shift with vintage flair (it reminds me of something michelle williams would wear!) i paired it with a mint bag + gold flats -- my favorite color combo. when you top the dress with a blazer it gives the sweet look just a little edge (and some extra warmth… it is still a bit chilly in chicago!) my night look is a bright coral top paired with slim black leggings and stacked wood wedges. the wedges + legging combo will make your legs go on for days (always good!) thanks for letting me drop in! stop by cornflake dreams anytime for even more fashion, travel, and design inspiration.

that drum!



This Tibetan drum was a purchase that my husband insisted on. I was not sold, mainly because we didn't have a place for it in our home. It is a cool piece, but maybe I'll like it better atop of a kilim rug in a room with all white bedding. Mmmm -- I think it would be a better fit in a room with more of a boho feel, don't you? One day, maybe we can appreciate it for all it's worth. At least, now it's growing on me, after spying a similar one on the most recent cover of Better Homes and Gardens. Funny how my feeling can change about an item once I see it published! :)

I love the look of a swinging-arm sconce. Whether they are flanking a mirror, fireplace or bed, this modern touch of lighting can be easily blended into any space: modern or traditional. Isn't that brass finish yummy?
